Pascal Kaufmann - Biography
Pascal Kaufmann – Neuroscientist, Entrepreneur, and AI pioneer
Pascal Kaufmann is a trained neuroscientist, entrepreneur, and thought leader in the field of artificial intelligence. He is the founder of AlpineAI, the Mindfire Foundation, and the Lab42 AI Lab in Davos, as well as co-founder of Starmind.
After studying neuroscience and economics at ETH Zurich and Northwestern University (USA), Kaufmann conducted research in neuroinformatics at the University of Zurich. There, he focused intensively on neural networks and the interface between the brain and machines.
He gained his first professional experience in the finance and consulting sector, including at Bank Julius Bär in the area of business development. In 2010, he founded Starmind AG together with Marc Vontobel – a company that is considered a global pioneer in the use of artificial intelligence for knowledge networking. There, he was responsible for strategic direction, stakeholder management, branding, and business development.
After leaving Starmind, Pascal Kaufmann initiated new projects with the Mindfire Foundation and the Lab42 AI Lab in Davos to bring together the best minds in neuroscience and technology. The aim is to advance the development of artificial intelligence and secure Europe’s leading role in the global technology race – especially in competition with China.

New technologies – impact on companies and employees
The range of technical solutions in the field of knowledge management is manifold. They range from databases and social media to tools based on artificial intelligence. Which technology promises the greatest possible benefit? The experience gained in companies over the past few years shows a trend in this direction. As a result, many companies around the world are turning to self-learning technology that makes the know-how of the entire group available to every employee. In the context of digitalization and “culture change”, a new way of collaboration and communication is made possible. Behind this is “Brain Technology”: a new type of software. Insights into results and the functioning of artificial intelligence in connection with the futuristic “Smart Work Places” are provided.
Neuroscience, Biology and Business: a perfect symbiosis
Starmind’s Brain Technology references the workings of the human brain, which has connections and dynamic combinations between individual brain cells. Starmind’s technology independently and continuously learns who in the company has what know-how and experience, creating an internal real-time network that links knowledge and people. Just like in the human brain, where brain cells are interconnected, new connections are created and impulses are redirected to find the best result. Inspired by the latest brain research, Starmind links questions with experts, in the same spirit as the intelligent networking of brain cells.
Knowledge management in the vortex of the digital revolution: how artificial intelligence is replacing knowledge management
The experience gained by companies in the field of knowledge management in recent years reveals a clear trend: Classic systems are failing due to low acceptance among employees, high complexity and costly implementation. Today, more and more companies around the world are turning to a new type of technology that makes the know-how of the entire group automatically available to every employee. As part of the digital revolution, self-learning technologies are enabling a new way of collaboration and communication. Using European and US corporations as examples, insights will be given into the results and functioning of artificial intelligence in the context of futuristic “Smart Work Places” and social collaboration.
